  For those brought up in the borg, How would of your life been different ?

  we have all fantasized about never having been jw's, how would your life of been different (better or worse) if your family(parents) would of never joined the jw's.. hypothetical question i know.

  but fun to think about it.. for me, i might of actually had a family, instead of being ignored and critized for not going to meetings.. for my family, it goes back to my grandmother (who is now 100), who started the crap line going.

  My wife grew up in a liberal Catholic family and had one of those "idyllic" childhoods. While her family considered themselves religious people; they were balanced. Unlike my childhood which was religion, religion, and yet more religion, My world as a child was extremely limited to the "friends". I had in the Truth. My parents cared a great deal for their children but the religion took its toll.

  Patty (my wife) still has very close friends from her grade school years; a very tight circle of friends Her family traveled quite oftern and she has friends all over.. In fact, she is like the pied piper with friends. All of my childhood friends disowned me because I left the JWs. If they see me walking down the street with my kids they cross the street to avoid me now..

  Now that I see my kids growing up much like their mother, I think I could have had a happier childhood.

  i was disfellowshipped for exactly one year.

  i couldn't help thinking how controlling the elders were.

  i lived with my parents just so they could talk to me.

  Troubled waters! Need quick answer on this one!

  a friend of mine in an undisclosed province of this great country canada is undergoing some duress -- it seems the elders from her old kh keep phoning her/leaving her messages with ultimatums and places they feel she should meet her, when really (and astonishly enough) she just wants to be left alone, having felt this way since a divorce in the spring of this year no longer attending meetings.

  my query - is there any form of cease and desist order, or restraining oder she could get that would make any further attempts to contact her a breach of some sort, resulting in lawful punishment?.

  oh and by the way, hello old friends, and happy birthday valis - you rawk

  I ditto Scullys post; I lived thru it 20 years ago ( USA, not Canada).

  ...and yes, the Elders will back off when they realize that they can lose the houses they live in through a court settlement.

  Taking stock of my blessings....

  i've been df'd for a number of years, and up until recently have been able to maintain a fairly close relationship with my parents.

  dad passed away a few years back and since then i have tried to keep my mom busy so she wouldn't be alone - phone calls, shopping, dinner, etc - and i took care of things around her house for her.

  well now mom has decided that she needs to follow the wt rules and cut the "socializing" with me - of course, it's "acceptable" for me to still go take care of her when she needs it .

  yes, Dawn, it is silly

  the bottom line is that this is her choice,not yours. That religion does strange things to people. Hopefully time will help HER to see what she is doing.

  Dawn,

  I admire your good positive attitude . I try to do the same; although at times ( JW or not) it can be a challenge. The lifestyle you describe is similar to mine; and that means you are always busy. This is good. And the children make it all worthwhile.

  Your mother will come around when she sees how positive your life is. It takes time.

  Does anyone else still get Armaggeddon Nightmares!!

  i haven't posted for a few weeks as i have been back at work busy beavering away, however as it is my day off i thought i would see if anyone else has the same trouble that i have, and also if there is anything they have found useful.. i have always had trouble eating properly and sleeping ever since my early teen years, but over the past couple of years or so (even though i know i don't believe the watchtower teachings anymore) i have at least 3 or 4 times a week, the most vivid awful nightmares about armaggeddon, and the different ways that jehovah is going to destroy me because of my wickedness.

  i wake up in tears and shaking with fear, and then i am not able to get back to sleep, i just lie awake until the morning not daring to close my eyes.. i can't believe that as a grown woman, the watchtower teachings keep coming back to haunt me.. lainey.

  ps can i also thank all the posters for the kind personal messages that i have received since i came here

  Lainey,

  I never had Armageddon nightmares; however, I think we all "react" to the change in "lifestyle thinking" in different ways. In retrospect It took me a few years before the fog lifted completely, and I had a bumpy ride; with other side effects other than nightmares. We must understand that we cannot simply walk away from such a controling lifestyle which permeated every aspect of our lives, without some kind of "attitude adjustment" period.

  As you say, the current affairs that you are having to experience ( loss of loved ones) does not help. I understand, as I am going through that also at this time.

  Take care of yourself; being busy with your career certainly helps.

  as a jehovahs witness, our lives were clearly "defined".

  for those of us who are no longer in the "truth", what "drives" your life now?.

  for me, it is my kids ( 12, 9, 4--busy--busy--busy) ; my wife; my career; i live by my own personal value system ( tried, tested and working).. the absence of the superimposed restrictive grid of the jw lifestyle has allowed my life to blossom.

  As a Jehovahs Witness, our lives were clearly "defined". for those of us who are no longer in the "Truth", what "drives" your life now?

  For me, it is my kids ( 12, 9, 4--busy--busy--busy) ; my wife; my career; I live by my own personal value system ( tried, tested and working).

  The absence of the superimposed restrictive grid of the JW lifestyle has allowed my life to blossom. My mind now looks at life from a different perspective...a very positive view.
